These competitions are open to Photo Section members and are run annually.
Print Competition
The Print Competition is for A4 size prints in A3 size mounts which are displayed in the Photo Section Exhibition at Old Warden over the period of the Engineering Open Days. The public are invited to vote for their favourite picture and competition winners are then selected by an independent judge.
The Digital Competition for the Ken Cates Trophy is about displaying Projected Digital Images (PDIs) on-line in a Flickr photo-sharing website and is analogous to the slide shows in the past produced using transparencies. As no prints are required it costs nothing to enter and there are no judges; the other members of the SVAS Photo Section vote for the winners and two runners-up and this makes the competition accessible to enter and a good introduction to those who are newcomers to having their work judged by others.
The Ken Cates Trophy commemorates a past member of the Photo Section and is a competition for digital images which are displayed on a Flickr website. The winner who is selected by membership votes, holds the trophy for nine months.
